I love Drupal!
Hello!
Here, I am building a blog web site for myself using Drupal. When it comes to choosing a CMS (Content Management System), there are many of them and choosing the right one is crutial for the site's success. The reasons why I chose Drupal are:
- Drupal is free Open Source software.
- Established history of development.
- The development community is very active.
- Internationalization capability.
- Availability of many modules that extends Drupal's core capability
Japanese support
Overall, Japanese and other Asian languages are well supported by Drupal.
There are Japanese translation modules from Drupal Japan
, the official Drupal site for Japanese. The core modules get all translated. There are also some key modules translated for Japanese, such as Image
, Pathauto
, and Token
.
Unfortunately, there are areas that Drupal's Japanese and Asian language support is somewhat limited. One example is the Search capability. Search assumes that the word is separated by a space, which is not the case for Asian languages. Also the calculation of character count is based on single-byte character sets (SBCS), so it is often miscalculated for multi-byte character sets (MBCS) such as Japanese.
Nonetheless, Drupal is a great CMS software. I truly thank Drupal developers.
What is this blog for
This blog itself is a testbed for me. The goal is to create a website with multi-language contents (English and Japanese).
The things I write will be just various things (in Japanese, "Moromoro") about Drupal, Windows, and other software. Thus the title "Moromoro Diary".
So, hopefully, I will be writing something interesting. Stay tuned...
If you happen to find any error in my contents, whether it's grammatical, spelling, or idiomatic usage, please let me know!
